OUR PERSPECTIVE
In its new iteration, the San Francisco Wine Trading Company space––recently acquired by well-respected online wine merchants JJ Buckley––brings an elevated design to the Bay Area landmark that dates back nearly 50 years. JJ Buckley tapped Alexa Nafisi of Adean Studios to conceptualize and complete the full transformation of the online wine distributor’s flagship store. Presenting a luxury concierge style model to the standard retail experience, floor to ceiling wine displays capture attention as guests enter the San Francisco Wine Trading Company. In the design approach, Adean set out to replicate Old World European styles, rooted in classic French Bordeaux architecture while honoring the history of San Francisco. Resembling the centuries-old arcades of France stemming from the Beaux Arts movement, the space is adorned with modern and current elements, providing a thoughtful juxtaposition. Notable design elements include eye-catching artichoke wallpaper, custom banquettes and integrated LED lighting allowing the vast selection of wine to take center stage. A light, airy front room intended for browsing and gathering leads into a moody tasting bar complete with dark tones in line with the Beaux Arts architectural style.
